Care and Maintenance...
Biggest Mistakes
The biggest mistake I've seen is when people try to add this secret sauce and
that noxious home-brewed tea and then be horribly disappointed with the nasty
results. The second biggest mistake I have seen is when a grower treats
the plant like a bonsai tree. This only slows down your harvest and
diminishes your crop. Number three is crazy scissors: cutting off leaves
that are "in the way", thumb-cutting a bud before the rest of the
plant is ready, taking cuttings after the plant is in bud. These things
are WRONG. When you cut the plant, you are injuring the plant.
Instead of focusing on the job at hand ( growing, blooming ) now the plant has a
wound to heal. Healing takes a lot of energy. Energy that could be put to
use making fat buds. And don't squeeze or pinch the buds. That
completely halts their progress; it kills them.
Watering
A fresh supply of water that has set overnight with no lid is required.
Each plant gets 1 gallon.
Fertilizing
We use Whitney Farms All Purpose 5-5-5, and Maxicrop Soluble Seaweed
Trimming
I usually do most, if not all, of the trimming while the plant is still
standing in the pot. I do it in a well lit area, where I can save all of
my leaves on drying racks. I take the large fan leaves first, and then
work in sections. When there are no leaves without crystals on them, I lop
the plant and hang it in my closet.
Curing
I'm not allowed to have enough to keep it around for a month waiting for it
to cure. It hangs in the closet for about 2-5 days depending on the
weather. I also set a branch or two on the top of the computer monitor
with a few sheets of paper over them - dry enough to smoke in a few hours or
overnight. When desperation strikes, and I have to smoke right now,
I pop a bud in the microwave for 20 seconds. Pull it out and cool it off
completely and give her another shot of 20 seconds. After three rounds, most pot
is ready to smoke. I do not recommend either the microwave or the
monitor. Both methods really break down the THC and diminish the quality
of the weed. We do use it for a test for weeding a strain out: if
you can't stand up to the mikeywave you ain't hanging out long
