Lighting should be powerful and wide spectrum.  Different stages of development require different spectrums and different strengths of lights.  1000 watts of blasting power is great for an established plant, but will fry tender babies.  Florescent lights will give your babies a good start, but they really need the high powered lights to reach their full potential. 

I use regular florescent tubes in my starter booth.

In the Green Room I use one 1000w Neutral Deluxe Metal Halide (MH) and one 1000w Phosphorous coated MH.

In the Bloom Room I have one 1000w Warm Deluxe MH and one 1000w Hortilux High Pressure Sodium Vapor.

Ultimate is 18" although this is hard to accomplish with a group.
